Liz Dubé

Privacy Policy for website: www.lizdube.com

1. Who We Are and What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Liz Dubé (“Liz,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit lizdube.com (the “Website”), take the Intimacy Season Quiz, sign up for our email list, register for an event, or contact us through the Website.

Liz Dubé is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and a California Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (License #80113).

This policy applies to information collected through the Website and related educational, event, and marketing activities. It does not replace the separate privacy documents that apply to therapy clients.

2. The Website Is Not Therapy

The Website, quiz, newsletters, blog posts, and events are provided for general educational and informational purposes. They are not therapy, medical advice, or a diagnosis, and using them does not create a therapist-client relationship.

If you become a therapy client, your clinical information is governed by separate documents provided during the intake process, including the Notice of Privacy Practices, informed consent, and any applicable telehealth consent. Those documents and applicable laws govern your treatment records. This Privacy Policy addresses information collected through the Website, events, and marketing activities.

Please do not send detailed or sensitive personal, health, or sexual information through the contact form, newsletter, ordinary email, or social media. These channels are not designed for confidential clinical communication. Share only what is needed to request information or a consultation.

3. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information:

Information you provide

  • Contact and consultation requests: Your name, email address, phone number, preferred contact method, and any message you choose to send.
  • Email list and quiz signup: Your first name and email address, and any other information requested on the signup form.
  • Event registration: Your name, email address, and registration details. If Eventbrite is used, Eventbrite handles ticketing and may collect information under its own privacy policy.
  • Purchases or payments, if offered: Transaction and billing information processed by the applicable third-party payment provider. We do not intend to collect or store full payment-card details on the Website.

The Intimacy Season Quiz

The quiz asks reflective questions about intimacy and relationships. The quiz answers and result are intended to be calculated and stored in your browser so that your result can be displayed. The name and email address submitted through the signup form are sent to our email service provider so we can deliver the result or related emails.

Quiz results are educational and are not a diagnosis or clinical assessment. You can clear browser-stored quiz information by clearing the Website’s site data in your browser, if the quiz is implemented as described.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Website, the Website and its service providers may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, referring website, and approximate location. This may occur through server logs, cookies, security tools, analytics, and similar technologies.

4. Comments, Spam Prevention, and User Accounts

If comments or user accounts are enabled on the Website, we may collect the information shown in the comment form, your IP address, and your browser user-agent information to help detect spam and protect the Website. Comments and related information may be processed by an automated spam-detection service.

If the Website uses Gravatar, an anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. After a comment is approved, your profile image may be visible publicly alongside your comment. Gravatar is operated by a third party and is subject to its own privacy policy.

If the Website permits registered accounts, we may store the information you provide in your user profile. Users may be able to view, edit, or delete profile information through account settings, except information they cannot change, such as a username. Website administrators may also access and edit account information as needed to administer the Website.

5. Media Uploads

If you upload images to the Website, remove embedded location information, such as EXIF GPS data, before uploading. Visitors may be able to download images and extract location information that remains embedded in them.

6. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

  • Respond to messages and consultation requests.
  • Provide quiz results and resources you request.
  • Send newsletters, event announcements, and updates where you have signed up or otherwise consented, subject to applicable law.
  • Administer event registrations and purchases.
  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Website and related services.
  • Understand which content is useful, including through aggregated or de-identified information where available.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights, safety, and property.

We do not use quiz results or email signup information to diagnose you. We do not make decisions about you using automated profiling for clinical purposes.

7. Email Marketing and Your Choices

When you sign up for our email list, you may receive quiz-related messages, newsletters, event information, and occasional educational updates. We use Brevo for email delivery, if it remains our active email service provider.

You can:

  • Unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.
  • Continue receiving non-marketing messages about a registration, purchase, or request you made, where appropriate, even if you unsubscribe from marketing emails.

We follow applicable email marketing laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act where it applies.

8. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Companies that help operate the Website and provide services, such as website hosting, WordPress tools and plugins, email delivery (such as Brevo, if still used), event registration (such as Eventbrite, if still used), payment processing, analytics, forms, security, and spam prevention. These providers may process information as needed to perform services for us and under their applicable terms and privacy commitments.
  • Legal and safety reasons: When we believe disclosure is required by law, legal process, or a valid government request, or is reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Business changes: If the practice or relevant business assets are reorganized, transferred, or sold, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.
  • With your direction or consent: When you ask us to share information or otherwise authorize a disclosure.

We do not authorize service providers to use personal information for their own unrelated purposes merely because they provide services to us. Their own privacy policies may also apply to information they collect directly.

Therapy clients’ clinical information is subject to separate confidentiality obligations and client privacy documents.

9. Third-Party Links and Embedded Content

The Website may link to or embed content and services from third parties, such as videos, images, social media posts, event registration pages, or other articles.

Embedded content from another website may behave as though you visited that website directly. The third party may collect information about you, use cookies or similar technologies, add tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, particularly if you have an account with that provider and are logged in.

Third-party websites and services are not controlled by us. Their collection and use of information are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. We encourage you to review those policies before interacting with embedded content or leaving our Website.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. The Website may use cookies and similar technologies to support basic site functions, remember preferences, maintain administrative or account sessions, protect the Website, and understand Website use.

WordPress, plugins, embedded content, analytics, and other third-party tools may set their own cookies or similar technologies.

For example:

  • If comments are enabled, the Website may offer to remember a commenter’s name, email address, and website in cookies.
  • If administrative or user login is enabled, WordPress may use temporary cookies to test browser cookie support and additional cookies to maintain login sessions and screen preferences.
  • Editing or publishing content while logged in may also create a cookie identifying the edited post.

Exact cookie names, purposes, and expiration periods depend on the current Website configuration and installed tools.

You can manage or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking certain cookies may affect Website features. Some third-party cookies are controlled by the relevant third party.

11. How Long We Keep Information

We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.

  • Email list information: Until you unsubscribe or request deletion, subject to limited records needed to maintain suppression and compliance lists.
  • Contact and consultation messages: For as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, maintain appropriate business records, and address legal, security, or business needs.
  • Event and transaction records: For the period needed to administer the event or transaction and meet applicable tax, accounting, legal, and dispute-resolution requirements.
  • Comments and account information, if enabled: For as long as needed to operate the comment or account feature, prevent spam or abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
  • Therapy records: Retained separately under applicable law, professional requirements, and the client documents provided to therapy clients.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. These may include secure HTTPS connections, access controls, updates, backups, and reputable service providers.

No website, storage system, or electronic transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal, health, or sexual information through ordinary Website forms, email, or social media.

13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether applicable privacy laws cover our business and the information involved, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information, or to opt out of certain processing.

California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), to the extent those laws apply to us.

These rights may be subject to exceptions, including information we must retain for legal, security, recordkeeping, or other permitted purposes. Rights relating to clinical records may be governed by separate laws and client privacy documents.

14. Children’s Privacy

The Website and quiz are intended for adults age 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from anyone under 18.

15. Visitors Outside the United States

The Website is operated from the United States. If you access it from another country, information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date when changes are made.

If a change is material, we may provide additional notice on the Website or by email where appropriate. The updated policy applies from its stated effective date.
